I believe a child’s personality and motivation impact their learning and recognize the importance of identifying personality types as well as ways in which they learn best. ![]() I do not believe in accepting substandard work from a student and know how valuable it is to provide opportunities for corrections, editing, revision, rereading, and rewriting for the sake of learning and achieving excellence. Student learning should not solely focus on grades but also on how well students attend to and take responsibility for learning. Teachers must know their content well and should model correct learning and thinking habits as well as differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students. ![]() I believe that the relationship a teacher has with a child is one of the most important components of a child’s success in school. I believe children should be taught skills and concepts that are developmentally appropriate. What is your favorite scripture or quote? Our teachers do an amazing job of relating to their students and delivering effective and interesting lessons each and every day. We have been blessed with amazing parents who are very involved in the education of their children and desire for them to hear God’s Word every day. What do you love about working at Hill Country? I have 35 years of experience as a teacher and principal. I have a Bachelor of Music from West Texas A&M University and a Bachelor and Master of Music from the Juilliard School of Music. He’s in our characters in our novels, and He’s in every culture we study. There’s not a moment that goes by without making relevant the fact that we see the world through Jesus. The love of Jesus runs through my English and World Cultures classes each and every day. I love that we have the freedom within our curriculum to teach with a biblical worldview. What do you love about teaching at Hill Country? We truly make it our mission to build relationships with each of our students. Hill Country holds true to our mission of getting to know our students. What do you believe makes Hill Country distinct? Without their example, I wouldn’t be who I am today. ![]() They are the most beautiful example of what it means to live your life for the Lord. Who has had the greatest influence on your life and why? What is your favorite Scripture or quote?īe strong and courageous do not be frightened and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. What song would be the soundtrack to your life? She was elusive, brilliant, sassy, head-strong, spoke her mind through her works, and had a pulse on the deep south like no other. Other than the obvious answer, Jesus, it would be southern author Harper Lee. If you could meet one historical figure or famous person, who would it be and why? My greatest accomplishment is raising triplets plus one! What is an interesting fact about you not many people know? Other than the Bible, what’s your all-time favorite book? My favorite hobby is camping with my family. What is your favorite hobby or one of your favorite things? It’s great to see her love it as much as I do.Ĭollege football, mainly because I like hanging out with others who actually care about football (haha). My daughter Molly is also a high school English teacher here at Hill Country. Before starting at Hill Country in 2011, I taught in Alabama and Colorado every grade from 4th to 11th. I’m also currently pursuing my Master of Education Administration. I earned my Bachelor of Science in English Language Arts Education from Auburn University. Before moving to Austin in 2010, my family and I lived in Alabama and Colorado.
